Taylor Rocks

The American Idol finale was a roller coaster of emotions. Most of them not good. There was all sorts of embarrassment--from Clay Aiken's freakish new hair and his stalker fan, to "the boys" singing a medley of boy tunes, to the girls singing a medley of "woman" tunes.

Then there was fear--what the hell is up with Meatloaf?!?!? He was shaking and sweating and sounded like crap and looked like he might have a heart attack at any moment. And then there was Toni Braxton. First of all, you couldn't hear her....but I'm not sure we would have wanted to. Then she tried to molest poor Taylor.

And then there was frustration. Why the hell do they stretch the show out to 2 hours? I mean, of the "Top 12," there's maybe 5---maybe--that you ever want to spend time listening to again. Whenever I watch Kevin Covais or Ace or Bucky perform, I think "There's 3 minutes of my life I'll never get back!"

And what was the deal with all of the crappy songs they had Taylor performing? They boy needs songs with soul, not overplayed, sappy Dirty Dancing soundtrack songs. His new single "Do I Make You Proud?" leaves a lot to be desired, too.

There were a few bright spots. I enjoyed Elliott and Mary J. Blige, the montage of clips of the judges was amusing, seeing Prince on American Idol was surreal, and of course Taylor won, so it was all good.
